How GlideComp scores competitions
Every GlideComp competition uses one of two scoring formats. The organiser selects the format in the competition settings. Select a format below to read how it works. The last two pages describe the checks that GlideComp makes on each tracklog before it scores.
GAP race to goal
The standard CIVL scoring, used at most paragliding and hang gliding competitions. Pilots race a set course through turnpoints to a goal. A perfect task day is worth 1000 points. GAP shares those points between distance, time, leading and arrival, by how each pilot performed against the field. Use GAP for a task with a defined route and goal.

All pilots launch from the same place and fly as far as they can. There is no set goal. Each task has one take-off turnpoint. Your score is the metres of open distance you flew. That is the straight-line distance from the point where you leave the take-off cylinder, to the furthest point you reached. Use open distance for free-distance and record-style days.

A flight recorder sometimes logs an altitude that no glider can fly. GPS dropouts and multipath spikes cause these errors. Before the analysis, GlideComp repairs them: it compares the GPS altitude against the barometric channel, and uses physical plausibility limits when there is no barometer. The pilot's report card shows every repair. GlideComp never changes positions, times or the original file.

A pilot sometimes uploads the wrong file: a flight from another day, or from another site. GlideComp compares every tracklog against the task it was submitted to. It withholds a tracklog that cannot be that flight, instead of scoring it. Softer observations are only flagged, and never change a score. The scorekeeper can overrule every verdict.
